Different Time Zones

from Dreamers EP by Di Ivories

/

about

This song came about very spontaneously. I had just come back from Colombia while seeing a very special friend and felt like all my emotions came pouring out when I landed. Traveling for me is a very unique and blissful experience. There are certain days in a week where I feel like I just need to get away from the city for a day or two, and so I go out into the world to meet some people, then when I return to the city I feel this overwhelming sense of longing. I just felt like I needed to get this message out that no matter how far I am, I will always be thinking of you.. I didn’t expect the melody and cadence to come so naturally, that’s when I realized the lyrics had to reflect that sensation of “overextending your love from afar while traveling across multiple cities.”

I decided I wanted to shoot the music video for this one in LA and MIAMI, and have that east coast-west coast juxtaposition; constantly switching back and forth between the cities would give that sense of chaos I felt when traveling. With the help of a friend, I decided to shoot on a camcorder, there’s just something unique about shooting on that; I felt like I needed to capture myself in my most sporadic moments, letting the music guide me through the open city and flow fluidly across panels. The rock and roll bluesy roots of the song really carry that motion from beginning to end, and I’m really happy with all the shots we took, especially the ones in the Santa Monica pier: I felt like the entire pier was my set and I was given a free reign to do whatever.

lyrics

Different nights wearing different clothes
I forget the time on my telephone
Anyday you fly through a different home
I would count the hours on that letterboard
Anyway you see written in your book
Handsome memories much younger than I look
And that was so worthwhile in a different way
Now I’m on a date I got to catch another plane
And if we fall below the line between the United States
When I’m trying to remain riding days night and days with you
Fold the other side, divide it, any different way
And now I’m stuck in a maze well I am, I’m coming anyway

Different times we’re in different zones
When I’ve found the hours that make our stay closer and
Give me time to enjoy the day before another night
Goes away

Different times in a different place
Pack a private case revolving, revolving many lanes
And I was so jet-lagged leaving halfway through
For the perfect snack, provided, provided by the crew
And I had, I figured out why I had been so delayed wherever
Living is Santa Monica’s vicinity and if it
It weird you out that I’m so far out of state well I can
I can talk my way through anything you just,
You just don’t relate

Different times we’re in different zones
When I’ve found the hours that make our stay closer and
Give me time to enjoy the day before another night goes away
Another time goes away
